Australia opens fire on lobbyists

LIBERAL Party officials who try to privately influence government MPs as “strategic consultants’’ or “legal consultants” without identifying themselves as lobbyists face tough new regu­lations to limit influence-­peddling after the resignation of NSW premier Barry O’Farrell.
Party officials will be forced to declare they are lobbyists and will have to choose between party ­positions and trying to exert ­influence.
